This spring sees the return of the Science Museum’s interactive gaming extravaganza, Power UP, featuring the very best video games, computers and consoles from the last five decades.

Featuring 160 consoles and hundreds of games from retro arcade classics to the latest in virtual reality, Power UP will take visitors on an immersive journey through the history of gaming. From Pong on the 1970s Binatone and Pac-Man – which celebrates its 40th year – on an Atari 2600 through to the latest PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo and more, Power UP will explore the evolution of the console, allowing gaming fans and novices to discover the latest in gaming technology and experience the classics that continue to inspire game makers around the world.

Alistair Otto, Associate Commercial Director at the Science Museum Group, said: ‘Video games have captivated audiences since the humble Pong launched in 1972 and have continued to evolve as platforms for storytelling, while remaining at the frontier of advancing technologies. At Power UP visitors can travel in time from the earliest consoles to the latest in VR, experiencing the thrill of gaming through the ages while discovering the technology and future possibilities of this truly exciting field.'

Visitors to Power UP can revel in nostalgia as they adventure with Sonic the Hedgehog and race with Mario, or uncover new characters as they go on a virtual reality mission with Astro Bot. From Wii Sports to Fortnite on the PC and Goldeneye on the N64, visitors of all ages will have the chance to play multiplayer favourites or find their rhythm with musical classics such as Donkey Konga and Guitar Hero. Adult-only evening sessions taking place on Wednesday 8 and Wednesday 15 April will give friends and competitive colleagues the perfect opportunity to grab a drink and battle it out in the ultimate Halo showdown; meanwhile sensory-friendly relaxed morning sessions on Saturday 11 and Saturday 18 April will be open for families with children who need a quieter environment to enjoy the event.

On Wednesday 8 April, a limited number of tickets will be available for the award-winning interactive comedy ‘Robot Chef’ presented by comedy duo Foxdog Studios. Using augmented reality avatars, the audience will be invited to operate a robotic kitchen from their smartphones, from igniting a gas stove to firing sausages from a cannon. Tickets will include entry to the adult-only evening session.

This year also sees the return of Gaming Lates, the Science Museum's popular adult-only event featuring talks, workshops and activities exploring the science of gaming, taking place on Wednesday 29 April. More details will be announced in due course.

Tickets to Power UP go on general sale on Saturday 1 February 2020. Visitors have until Thursday 30 January to sign up for priority booking via the Power UP webpage. A 20% off early bird booking offer will be available on selected tickets until 24 February 2020.
