Super Smash Bros. Ultimate coming to US Colleges This Fall - Full dates list

During select college football games this season, there might be rivalries playing inside and outside the stadium. Fans could see Mario vs. Bowser, or Zelda vs. Ganondorf, or the Inklings vs. Ridley, or frankly any of the thousands of combinations that can be formed with a roster of more than 70 playable fighters. That’s because the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate game for the Nintendo Switch system is heading to college campuses this fall to join some of the biggest tailgate parties of the season.

To lead up to the game’s launch on Dec. 7, Nintendo is partnering with Wendy’s College Tailgate Tour, the largest traveling fan experience in college football, to bring Super Smash Bros. Ultimate to notable football matchups to let fans play the game before heading into the stadium to cheer on their favourite team. The setup will feature a customised Super Smash Bros. Ultimate branded trailer with six gameplay stations and a large LED screen in dedicated tailgate areas outside of major college stadiums so fans can gather, play and cheer each other on as they compete in epic battles featuring their favourite video game characters – and maybe even emerge victorious against their own real-life rivals.

Wendy’s College Tailgate Tour will kick off on Sept. 22 at the Stanford @ Oregon game. The complete schedule is as follows:

  • Sept. 22 – Stanford @ Oregon
  • Oct. 6 – Alabama @ Arkansas
  • Oct. 13 – Wisconsin @ Michigan
  • Oct. 20 – Oklahoma @ TCU
  • Oct. 27 – Clemson @ FSU
  • Nov. 3 – South Carolina @ Ole Miss
  • Nov. 10 – TCU @ West Virginia
  • Nov. 17 – Miami @ Virginia Tech
  • Nov. 24 – Michigan @ Ohio State
  • Dec. 7 – The launch of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate!
  • Jan. 1, 2019 – Teams and location to be determined

When visiting the tour, fans will be treated to a cool setup in the parking lot that will host multiple Super Smash Bros. Ultimate impromptu competitions. Fans that play will not only have the chance to demo Super Smash Bros. Ultimate before it launches, but they will also earn bragging rights if they emerge victorious (and, really, isn’t that the most important thing?). The setup itself will be highly visual and perfect for photo ops, so even fans that decide not to play will have fun pics to share on their social media channels. Players who outplay their opponents in mini competitions will receive Super Smash Bros. Ultimate branded promotional items (while supplies last). Admission is free and there is no age restriction. For more information about the tour, visit https://smashbros.nintendo.com/events/college-tailgate-tour/.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the newest game in the long-running Super Smash Bros. series, and the first on Nintendo Switch. The game is one of the biggest crossover events in entertainment history, with more than 70 fighters, 100 stages and 900 music tracks from some of the most well-known video game franchises of all time. In addition to classic characters like Mario, Donkey Kong, Kirby and Link, two of the most recent fighters announced for the game are Simon Belmont from the Castlevania series and King K. Rool from Donkey Kong Country.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Hits the shelve

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl's multiplayer games, characters from all Nintendo universes meet up in Nintendo locales to duke it out. In Super Smash Bros.

Brawl's solo mode called "The Subspace Emissary," the world of Smash Bros. is invaded by an entity called the Ancient Minister and his army of creatures, called "The Primid." Normally, characters come alive in the world of Smash Bros. to do battle, then turn back into trophies when defeated. However, in Super Smash Bros.

Brawl the Ancient Minister starts turning characters into trophies to harness their power, then detonates bombs that suck pieces of the world back into his realm of Subspace. Eventually, all the characters in Super Smash Bros.

Brawl must work together to defeat the invading creatures from Subspace - this is accomplished by playing through side-scrolling levels.

Nintendo Australia confirms Super Smash Bros Brawl for June 26th

Nintendo Australia has 100% locked in June 26th as the release date for Super Smash Bros Brawl in Australia. Get ready to Brawl in Australian English as Brawl is an action packed fighting game that includes more moves, more levels, online battles, Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, a variety of control options, a host of playable characters, and even an adventure mode that’s a full game in itself! We promise this is the last time we make a snide comment about the Brawl release date...... maybe.

LET THE BRAWLS BEGIN

Australia, 14 May, 2008

Nintendo will release the highly anticipated Super Smash Bros. Brawl 26 June 2008. The first Super Smash Bros. for Wii™ is an action packed fighting game that includes more moves, more levels, online battles, Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, a variety of control options, a host of playable characters, and even an adventure mode that’s a full game in itself!

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is a game play experience where characters from around the Nintendo universe meet up in Nintendo locales to battle it out. Choose from a number of iconic and new characters including Mario, everyone’s favourite plumber; Meta Knight, the sword-wielding nemesis of Kirby; Pit, the angelic archer from Kid Icarus; Zero Suit Samus, the powerful Metroid series heroine; Sonic the Hedgehog from SEGA, and Solid Snake the solider from Konami’s Metal Gear series, among a host of others.

Jump and brawl your way through the Nintendo themed stages; pit up to four players against one another in a brawl to see who is the last one standing. Thanks to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection you can brawl with friends or strangers, share photos, swap replays, team up for challenging mini-games, and send custom made stages or screenshots to friends.

The adventure mode ‘The Subspace Emissary’ is a new mode for brawlers where you fight your way through enemy packed side-scrolling levels. Meet up with other characters, take on bosses, or even play two player cooperative. In this mode the world of Smash Bros. is invaded by the Ancient Minister and his army of creatures. The Ancient Minister is turning characters into trophies to harness their power, and eventually all the characters must work together to defeat the invading creatures. The Subspace Emissary is a fully-fledged game of its own!

Customise your Super Smash Bros. Brawl experience as you select your favourite Nintendo music to brawl to, and choose the control scheme that suits you best. Control options include the Wii Remote alone, Wii Remote with Nunchuk, Classic Controller or Nintendo GameCube controller, giving brawlers an endless amount of ways to play.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is an encyclopedia of Nintendo’s video game history; it’s a brawling, battling adventure that retains all the familiar features of the series, whilst bringing a variety of extensive new elements, ensuring infinite replayability.

The previous instalment in the series, Super Smash Bros. Melee is the best-selling game of all time for Nintendo GameCube with 7.41 million copies sold worldwide.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl rumbles onto the Wii in Europe on 27 June

Who's The Best Brawler Of Them All?

Time to settle old scores and let the Wii decide with the launch of Super Smash Bros. Brawl

The next super-charged generation of brawling rumbles onto the Wii with Super Smash Bros. Brawl hitting the shelves in Europe, on the 27 June 2008. Packed with a whole host of new features including a bulging character roster, an accessible and intuitive combat arena editor, multiple battle modes, an engrossing single player storyline and for the first time, the ability to take battles online, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is set to bring the fast, furious and frenetic world of the brawl to the masses!

Super Smash Bros. has always been about pitching Nintendo’s iconic characters against each other and settling long-standing arguments on who is the toughest in four-player bouts. Keeping this concept at its heart, Nintendo has upped the challenge by introducing 16 new characters into the fray – bringing the total playable to 35 – including familiar heroes such as Solid Snake, Wario, Diddy Kong and Sonic the Hedgehog. Never before have gamers had to master their combat style so finely, practicing and perfecting signature moves and combos to ensure they remain on top of the brawling pile.

The introduction of Wi-Fi combat via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection adds a complete new dimension to the brawl, particularly the intense hallmark four character battles. For the first time, friends and strangers alike can be challenged online either in cooperative teams, or alone as individual fighters. Twisting the concept of spectator mode, coins built up during play can now be bet on matches by viewers making every game as important as the last. If that wasn’t enough, players are also given the ability to share photos and replays, team up for enjoyable minigames, and even share created environments.

As with previous instalments, the goal of Super Smash Bros. Brawl is simple: be victorious by battling other characters in the game’s numerous atmospheric and interactive environments, inflicting as much damage as possible and finally propelling opponents off the screen to score points. Using a combination of the two attack buttons and the control stick, players can grab, attack and produce blistering ‘smash’ attacks that have the potential to blow away challengers. With the added bonus of being able to play with Nunchuk and Wii Remote, Wii Remote, Classic Controller and Nintendo GameCube Controller, everyone will find a preferred method to battle.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl offers solo players an in-depth side-scrolling adventure mode called The Subspace Emissary that revolves around the invasion of a Subspace Army of formless enemies led by the evil Ancient Minister. Their plan is to cut up the world using Subspace bombs and transport the pieces back to the Subspace. Throughout the story mode players are forced to battle against numerous and tricky opponents such as Primids – the core units of the Subspace Army, familiar bosses like Petey Pirahna, also new bosses and allies who have become possessed by the Subspace Army and must be overcome in battle. Once beaten, allies are freed of their possession and join ranks with the resistance!

Another unique aspect of Super Smash Bros. Brawl lies within the game’s ‘Vault’, the Stage Builder – an incredibly accessible level design tool that allows users to create their own environments. By using a 2D-grid for the layout plan, custom stages can be of one to three default sizes, contain an in-game background and musical theme, and have a building-block layout unique to the creators own tastes. All maps can be shared with friends via a memory pack, or even submitted to Nintendo for the chance to be chosen as ‘stage of the day’ where it is sent to all other players in the Wi-Fi network.

Last, but not least, is the introduction of numerous new in-game items and assist characters to help players throughout their adventures. Notable new power-ups include Superspicy Curry - allows the characters to breathe fire, the Gooey Bomb – a passable bomb that sticks to terrain and opponents, and Smoke Balls – balls of smoke that block a competitor’s view. Assist characters are a first to Super Smash Bros. Brawl and are console controlled ‘friends’ of the player’s character that are called upon for temporary assistance. Examples include Dr. Wright from Sim City, Gray Fox from Metal Gear and Excitebike – a number of pixel bikers that race around and knock over combatants!

With 35 characters, Wi-Fi connectivity, an enthralling single player story mode, imaginative and fully customisable arenas, numerous battle modes… and much, much more for gamers to discover, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is the definitive action game for any wannabe brawler. Let the battle commence on Wii with Super Smash Bros. Brawl!

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is available in Europe for the Wii at an estimated retail price of £39.99.
