Face your Fears in Silent Hill Shattered Memories video game for Nintendo Wii PlayStation 2 and PSP

Face your Fears in Silent Hill Shattered Memories zombie in the darkKonami explores the dark side of the player's mind by utilizing a new & innovative psychological profiling system in Silent Hill - Shattered Memories

Konami has released more details on the elaborate psychological profiling system at the heart of its new Silent Hill: Shattered Memories for Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 2 and PSP(PlayStation Portable).

While the new game borrows key plot and setting elements from the original PlayStation game, this re-imagining begins with a visit to a psychiatrist, who asks the player to answer a series of questions. From here on in, their every movement, reaction and response is monitored and the game tailored accordingly.

For instance, if a player dashes from location to location, the game will present different reactions from people and situations than if a more considered approach is adopted. Characters may appear more hostile, for example, and less willing to help with the game’s ongoing mystery of the hero’s missing daughter. Similarly, if the player comes across as overtly flirtatious or, at the other end of the scale, stand-offish and reserved, those they meet will dress differently, and also adjust their behavior.

This means that Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is a game that will be different for everyone who plays it. At its heart, the mystery of main character, Harry Mason’s missing daughter Cheryl remains, but the game is centered on the notion of family relations, and subtle plot elements and situations in the game outline a series of circumstances related to Harry’s plight.

During the game, an all-new bespoke Wii control system allows the user to fully interact with their surroundings, and explore the sprawling town of Silent Hill. A mobile phone doubles as a GPS unit, and can also be used to stay in touch with those you come to meet, and receive mysterious messages related to Cheryl’s disappearance. For the first time ever in the series’ history, Silent Hill is presented as a genuine location, inhabited by believable characters each driven by the evil undertones they live within.

The series’ renowned horror elements are delivered in nightmarish sequences, where the world around the player is gripped by ice, and where misshapen creatures – again inspired by elements from the player’s psychological profile – relentlessly chase and attack until the world unfreezes. This frozen nightmare can appear when least expected. Harry is unarmed, so is forced to use all his wits to escape his pursuers, which maximizes the suspense and feeling of helplessness, creating a truly unique horror experience.

Konami is also releasing Silent Hill: Shattered Memories for PSP® and PlayStation 2, both of which will feature a more familiar control system, but will include all the other additions mentioned. All three versions are being developed by Climax, the team behind the acclaimed Silent Hill: Origins for PSP® and PlayStation 2, and will also feature an all-new soundtrack by series composer Akira Yamaoka.

“From the very beginning, we planned to re-invent the horror-genre, getting deeper into the player’s minds and taking a new approach for videogames,” commented Tomm Hulett, Producer of Silent Hill Shattered Memories for Konami Digital Entertainment. “The development team took a long time studying all kinds of psychological elements, and created a unique system to monitor all player actions - even small things like how long an object is looked at. The result is a diverse experience, which adjusts itself all the way through the game and creates a story-driven experience like never before in any video game.”

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories will be released for Nintendo Wii, PSP (PlayStation Portable) and PlayStation 2 in Winter.

Roots of evil revealed in Silent Hill - Shattered Memories video game on Wii PSP and PS2

silent-hill-shattered-memories
Konami reinvents its first Silent Hill classic, as Shattered Memories arrives to scare on Wii, PSP and PlayStation 2.

Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH is to bring its terrifying Silent Hill series to Nintendo Wii as Silent Hill: Shattered Memories heads to the Nintendo system for the first time in Autumn.

The game, a clever reimagining of the now out of print first Silent Hill title, will also be released for PSP (PlayStationPortable) and PlayStation 2 at the same time.

While the game shares its twisting plot with the original PlayStation game, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories takes a different path in many, many ways. Characters can be approached but will offer different responses and be found in different places, while new clues and gameplay paths can be followed. The title follows Harry Mason, as he attempts to unravel the mystery of his missing daughter, Cheryl. A broken man, Mason’s investigations lead him to the mist-shrouded, snowy streets of Silent Hill: a malevolent town where the shadows play host to a wealth of evil, misshapen creatures.

Designed to make full use of the Wii’s unique controllers, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories uses the Wii Remote™ as a torch and cell phone as Mason looks for clues. The torch is vital for scouring the darkened, abandoned buildings of Silent Hill, while the phone acts as a secondary user interface, allowing the player to access maps via its GPS capabilities and take pictures of interesting elements. Likewise, the Wii Remote also can be used to pick up, examine and manipulate items to solve puzzles along the journey. Such technology was not available when the original Silent Hill was released in 1999, and its inclusion showcases Konami’s determination to enhance the playing experience with new, available technology.

Also new to Shattered Memories is a psyche profile element, which monitors every aspect of player’s reactions – from where they explore first, items that have been examined, and their reaction to those they meet. Small visual elements will also be altered slightly, adding to the oppressing atmosphere where nothing is what it seems. The psyche profile will adapt Harry’s actions as and when he meets normal-looking people or the game’s many inhuman denizens.

While the PSP and PlayStation 2 will feature a more familiar control system, both games will boast the new additions, and are certain to entrance hardened fans of Silent Hill and newcomers alike. All three games are being developed by Climax, the team behind the acclaimed Silent Hill: Origins for PSP and PlayStation 2, and will also feature an all-new soundtrack by series creator Akira Yamaoka.

Silent Hill: The Escape
Silent Hill: The Escape features original gameplay, detailed graphics and spine-chilling sound effects created specifically for the iPhone. In this first-person, 3D shooter survival horror game, players navigate through various levels from an abandoned hospital to a cold subway with a dull flashlight while fighting off monsters and faceless nurses. Players also carry a gun for protection to ward off the trail of chasing monsters. Taking full advantage of the iPhone's capabilities, players must employ the tilt sensor and skillfully tap the bullets to reload the revolver. Silent Hill: The Escape is available for $7.99 from the Apple App Store.

DanceDanceRevolution S Lite
The worldwide sensation that started the dance game craze doesn't miss a beat on the iPhone. DanceDanceRevolution S Lite is the first installment in the popular videogame franchise designed exclusively for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill and Frogger iPhone games coming...

silent hill iphoneThree of Konami's most popular games to Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch platforms, including an all-new version of Metal Gear Solid.

The publisher will release Metal Gear Solid Touch, Silent Hill: The Escape and Frogger for the Apple unit in early 2009, with each game specifically designed to make full use of the iPhone’s unique touch screen capabilities.

Metal Gear Solid Touch focuses on action elements of Hideo Kojima’s classic stealth series, and will see series veteran Solid Snake embark on an all-new mission.

Using locations and characters introduced in Konami’s Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Metal Gear Solid Touch initially offers eight action-packed stages, with more to be added at a later date.

The new title gives the player control via the Apple systems’ touch panel, and also allows users to pan in and out of the action.

Replay value is also enhanced via bonuses such as wallpapers and images that are attained by completing key elements within the game.

Similarly, Silent Hill: The Escape brings the doom-laden streets of the series’ titular town to iPhone in an first-person action title boasting new strains of macabre adversaries and a dark, brooding atmosphere.

frogger iphoneThe evergreen Frogger also heads to iPhone in a pixel-perfect conversion of the classic arcade game.

A new generation of gamers can experience the classic 80s coin-op as they steer the little amphibian across a busy street and danger-filled river as he attempts to make it to his lily-pad home in a newly revamped version.

“These are Konami’s first wave of titles for the exciting new devices, and allow us to bring new elements to portable gaming.

We welcome the iPhone and iPod Touch to our product line-up and look forward to these initial games,”

commented Florian Stronk, Head of Mobile Business Department at Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH.

Halloween creepy video games scary Dead Space, Silent Hill and Disgaea 3 - Absence of Justice

Dead Space video game - video game gamezplay post

dead space video gamesGamers can check out the newest trailers and get all the latest dev team news at the Dead Space website www.deadspacegame.com

A refreshing change from all the video game sequels these days, "Dead Space" is a new thriller that combines a sci-fi story line with "survival horror" game-play elements. It's no surprise the game makers refer to it as a cross between "Alien" and "Resident Evil."
"Dead Space" takes place 500 years in the future, when a rescue team travels to deep space to investigate a mining ship that abruptly ceased contact with Earth while orbiting above an ominous-looking planet. You play as an engineer, Isaac Clarke, tasked to restore the Ishimura's communications systems. While roaming the ship's eerie corridors, Clarke discovers vicious aliens have decimated the crew. And they're still here.
As you play from a third-person perspective, you navigate Clarke around gorgeous, high-definition environments with no icons, numbers or maps on the screen to remind you this is a video game. Instead, you'll keep an eye on the back of the protagonist's spacesuit because it tracks his health (indicated by a glowing turquoise meter). There's also an air supply timer (ideal for zero-gravity sequences), and on the back of most weapons, such as pulse rifle or contact beam, you'll see a digital number that counts down how much ammo is left. The only things that ruin the suspension of disbelief are pictures of floppy disks you'll find strewn throughout the spaceship, which is where you can save your progress during the game.
"Dead Space" offers plenty of action, with the ability to target and dismember aliens; puzzle-solving challenges, such as getting machinery to work or opening locked doors; handy gadgets, such as gravity boots and purchasable items using found credits; and a Hollywood-worthy script, tense atmosphere and a music soundtrack (beginning with a haunting rendition of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star").

Silent Hill: Homecoming video game gamezplay post

silent hill homecoming video game

The first "Silent Hill" video game on next-generation consoles takes advantage of the machines' graphical prowess, but in the end it's virtually identical game play to what we've seen since the franchise debuted on the original PlayStation in 1999. This is fine for those who want more of the same, but might disappoint those looking forward to an evolution in the series.

As 22-year-old soldier Alex Shepherd, you awaken at the beginning of "Silent Hill: Homecoming" strapped to a stretcher and wheeled into a seemingly abandoned hospital. The dark halls are only illuminated by your flashlight, as you hear babies crying and see ghostly images of your missing kid brother, Josh.
While attempting to find a way out of the hospital — after finding a map, solving puzzles and fighting off bizarre creatures (such as faceless nurses who eerily gyrate toward you) — you'll find yourself back in your hometown of Shepherd's Glen. Most of the residents are gone, a foreboding fog blankets the streets and monsters are roaming about. Could this have to do with the neighboring evil town of Silent Hill? You'll find out, as you'll visit there, too, as you attempt solve the mystery behind your brother's disappearance and make sense of your disturbing nightmares.
The combat has improved over past versions of the game, allowing you to easily take on baddies with weapons and objects (including fights against enormous "boss" characters). The camera is also better this time around as it aids your view of the towns instead of obstructing it.
"Silent Hill: Homecoming" might not break new ground in the popular survival horror series but shouldn't disappoint fans looking for a nail-biting adventure.

Disgaea 3 - Absence of Justice

Disgaea 3 Absence of Justice video game

PlayStation 3, $49.99 "Disgaea 3" features a Halloween-worthy cast of demons, witches and, well, exploding penguins.
It's a strategy game rather than a survival-horror game, and it aims to make you laugh rather than scream.
Mao (really), the top student at the Evil Academy, is determined to dethrone his father, the overlord of the Netherworld.
To become powerful enough, he has to endure dozens of strategic contests, accumulating a team of versatile comrades along the way.
The battles are very challenging and sometimes quite lengthy, so devoted admirers of "Disgaea" will get plenty of value.
But the graphics haven't advanced at all since the PlayStation 2 chapters, and NIS hasn't added enough new features to make "Absence of Justice" worth most players' time. Two stars.
