Red Dead Redemption 2 crowned Christmas Games No.1

Video games trade body Ukie today announces that ‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ by Rockstar/Take 2 has taken the Christmas No.1 spot in the official Ukie Games Charts, compiled by GfK.

The success of the global hit cinematic Western, a significant part of which was made in the UK, shows that UK consumer demand for immersive stories and interactive entertainment continues to grow, and reflects the continued health and talent of the UK games and interactive entertainment industry in a global industry.
Electronic Arts’ ‘FIFA 19’ and Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’ finished in 2nd and 3rd positions of the closely run contest respectively, with both franchises having previously achieved eight Christmas No.1s to date.

Capcom announces UK Fight Clubs promoting the release of video game 'Marvel vs Capcom 3'

Capcom have announced that they'll be holding 'Fight Club' events across the UK to promote the up-coming release of their latest fighting game 'Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds'.Arcade machines and pods

The events will allow players to get their hands on a near-final build of the game on 10 pods (for controller play on XBox 360) and 2 arcade cabinets (for stick play).

ShopTo brings gaming goodness to MCM Expo

Online videogame and movie retailer ShopTo.net is the latest company to confirm its attendance at the upcoming London MCM Expo, which closes out the month-long London Games Festival at Excel on 29-31 October.

Visitors to the ShopTo.net stand will get the chance to check out the latest demos – including PlayStation Move, Gran Turismo 5, Guitar Hero 6 and Two Worlds 2 – on ten games pods, as well as a host of special offer promotions on the newest games.

Brighton based publishers Lace Mamba Global today announce that they have reached an agreement with New Zealand based developer Areo for the release of “Casebook: Trilogy” Special Edition.

The agreement will see Lace Mamba Global release “Casebook” worldwide (ex Russia, Italy) in digital format as well as retail.

TIGA comments on gender imbalance in the video games industry

TIGA, the trade association representing the UK games industry, said today that if the games industry was to recruit a more diverse workforce then more girls in schools and women in colleges and universities should be supported and encouraged to study courses relevant to the industry. There was also a need to profile the games industry as a potential career choice in schools and higher education. TIGA made the comments following a statement by Lynne Featherstone MP, Minister for Equalities, that some companies “risk being uncompetitive” if they did not address the gender imbalance in the games industry.

DX Studio v4 to include cross platform support

Software developers Worldweaver Ltd, based in Pinewood Studios (UK), announce upcoming features of DX Studio v4, due for release later this summer.

Key to version 4.0 will be a new player for Android devices (such as the Google Nexus One or the Motorola Droid), and a lightweight cross platform Java+OpenGL player.

Final Fantasy XIII, fastest selling video game in the franchise history in the UK!

FFXIII logoSquare Enix Europe are pleased to announce that Final Fantasy XIII has become the fastest selling title in the Final Fantasy franchise history in the UK and also the fastest selling UK game of 2010 so far*.

The news comes on the heels of the announcement last week that the sell-in shipment of the game has exceeded the five million unit milestone worldwide. Cumulative global shipments of the FINAL FANTASY series have now reached 96 million units since the first game was launched over two decades ago.
