Mirror's Edge cosplay stunning pictures released

mirror's edge imageSome images are completely original, others imitate certain poses or scenes from the video game. Not the same bright-white-and-red colour scheme but it's pretty damn close to nailing the look and feel of Mirror's Edge, more so than any other cosplay we've seen.

Mirror's Edge download content on January 29th

mirror's edge
The first batch of downloadable add-on content for DICE's Mirror's Edge finally has a release date, and, as promised in December, it's coming later this month.

The pack, which includes seven "all-new and totally redesigned Time Trial maps" crafted around a decidedly abstract theme, comes to the Xbox Live Marketplace, PlayStation Network and PC on January 29 for $10.

PlayStation 3 owners may remember last year's promise of a free, exclusive downloadable Mirror's Edge map that has since become a point of contention, with some sites reporting that the content secretly went multi platform.

We contacted EA for an official comment on the subject, and a representative from the publisher clearly stated that the downloadable extra is still slated to be a PlayStation 3 exclusive.

All new download Time Trial Map Pack for Mirror's Edge

Leave the city behind! DICE, an Electronic Arts, today announced that the highly acclaimed first-person action adventure title, Mirror's Edge will release downloadable content (DLC) for the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system, the Xbox 360 videogame and entertainment system and the PC in late January. DICE also confirmed today that the PC version of the game will ship to retailers in North America on January 13th and worldwide on January 16th, 2009.

Players will be challenged to achieve the fastest times possible on nine races across seven all-new and totally redesigned Time Trial maps. No guns, no cops, and no city: this is true aesthetics, agility and flow that will challenge any runner. This special DLC pack will be available for $10 USD or 800 Microsoft points. As an added bonus, all PLAYSTATION 3 Mirror's Edge fans will be able to download an additional map for free.

"The freedom of movement and control in first person has been the most popular aspect of Mirror's Edge so we decided to distil these down to their purest form for this map pack," says Owen O'Brien, Senior Producer, DICE. "We deliberately chose a more abstract aesthetic that is still within our distinctive art style and then focused on flow and gameplay to create an experience and challenge very different from the main game."

Players can upload their best time to the Mirror's Edge leaderboards for their friends to download and compete against. Mirror's Edge was awarded "Best Xbox 360 Game" at the recent GC Developers Conference in Leipzig, Germany. It also received the "Best Action Game" of Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) by IGN and the Game Critics Award for "Best Original Game" at E3 in July. Mirror's Edge delivers players straight into the shoes of Faith, a modern day heroine who traverses the vertigo-inducing cityscape, engaging in intense combat, fast-paced chases and challenging puzzles. Mirror's Edge review - the game really shines...

Occasionally, a video game will reshape the way gamers see virtual worlds. Much like "Wolfenstein 3D," "Super Mario 64" and "Half-Life" before it, the stunning first-person action-adventure game "Mirror's Edge" smashes the conventions of its predecessors.
As a super-agile courier named Faith -- who's usually being chased by bad guys -- players can run, walk, leap, hop and slide across rooftops, within warehouses, through sewers and inside office buildings. Faith's goals are never more complicated than getting from Point A to Point B. How she accomplishes that is where "Mirror's Edge" comes alive.
Created by Swedish developer DICE, "Mirror's Edge" mimics real-life running -- complete with panting sounds. There are no on-screen meters, so the minimalist display lets players' eyes focus on the game's parkour-inspired moves. (You know, that froggy style of movement made famous by "Casino Royale" and all those soda and sneaker commercials.)

Luckily, the free running isn't disorienting. It's liberating, especially when players gain enough momentum to acrobatically parlay a series of maneuvers into an impromptu ballet, resulting in a spring from a construction crane or lunge toward a helicopter. Of course, the fear of going splat or being shot to death by your pursuers is omnipresent.

To keep the action moving, objects and surfaces that Faith can bounce off of or use to her advantage glow a distinct shade of candy apple red and are usually easy to spot within her sterile urban environment, which resembles what it might look like if Ikea erected a city in Japan. Once you get the hang of the light-footed game play, it's strangely blissful.

Players can also tackle what few foes get in Faith's way and apprehend their firearms. However, guns seem to slow her down. Ultimately, this game is all about the chase. So, with the tap of a button, she'll toss weapons aside and continue on her way, making "Mirror's Edge" a surprisingly nonviolent yet continually adrenaline-pumping affair.
"Mirror's Edge" isn't perfect. The story line is pedestrian and the wannabe anime cut scenes aren't compelling. Tapping the bumper button to vault or wall climb doesn't always seem to elicit the desired response, which can send Faith tumbling to her death -- and force players to restart the sequence.
Those issues aside, the game's 10 chapters will definitely leave players craving more places to lunge and run. Innovative games such as "Mirror's Edge," with a sleek "Fifth Element" aesthetic and "Run Lola Run" sense of urgency, don't come around often. It would be a mistake to let such a visionary piece of work pass you by.
