Final Great Fire of London 1666 Minecraft map released to download - Great Fire 1666: The Rebuild

The Museum of London has launched the final in a series of three Minecraft maps recreating the Great Fire of London, following the first and second maps which launched in July and September 2016.

Titled Great Fire 1666: The Rebuild, the third map will challenge players to help London rise from the ashes following its destruction in the second map and design their own version of the capital. They will be able to explore the ruined streets, before meeting King Charles II at the Guildhall to hear his decrees for a new vision of London.

Players can interact with four different architects – Christopher Wren, Valentine Knight, John Evelyn and Richard Newcourt – each of whom had a unique vision for what the City of London could become after the Great Fire. Their ideas include introducing wide streets, creating large open squares, adding public markets and fountains, and even charging a levy to use a new canal.

After learning about these plans for a new London, players can use this inspiration to create their own city with a series of Minecraft models. Players will have the opportunity to play with and redesign London using specially created miniature buildings to build their vision of London. Some of the characters will be voiced by BigBStaz, NinjaBob, Wizard Keen and Stampy’s Dad as King Charles II.

Online Learning Manager at the Museum of London, Ally Davies, said: “We’re really excited to be releasing the third and final map in the Great Fire 1666 series, which has been a great success. We’ve had really positive feedback from the first two maps, which have been downloaded in more than 120 countries. We developed this project with Adam Clarke, Blockworks and Dragnoz with the aim of sharing our Great Fire collections and expertise beyond the physical limits of the museum in the form of a fun and engaging learning resource, so the international reach that the maps have been able to achieve has been truly phenomenal.”

Digital Producer Adam Clarke, said: “It has been a real pleasure working with the Museum of London, and the incredibly talented team of Blockworks and Dragnoz, on making the Great

Fire 1666 Minecraft maps. I am really proud of all the work that has gone in to this project. This last map is very special. It’s beautiful, informative and, best of all, fun. I hope everyone enjoys playing it as much as we have enjoyed creating it.”
