Dante's Inferno E3 video game Fact sheet

E3 2009 gamezplay logoAndare all’Inferno. Translation: Go to Hell.

EA’s Dante’s Inferno will take gamers to the western world’s most definitive view of the afterlife as created in the 13th century by the Italian poet Dante Alighieri in part one of his epic classic, “The Divine Comedy.”

The game is shipping in 2010 for the PLAYSTATION 3, Xbox 360 and the PSP.

EA’s Dante’s Inferno tells an adapted story that focuses on delivering a blockbuster 3rd person action game experience while bringing Alighieri’s depiction of Hell to the medium. Players assume the role of Dante, who descends into Hell after returning home to find his beloved Beatrice murdered, with Lucifer seducing her soul into the underworld. Dante sets out on a rescue mission to save Beatrice, but he soon realizes he is also in Hell to face his own demons and ultimately to redeem himself.

Players will take Dante through nine unique circles of Hell as mapped out and described by Alighieri: limbo, lust, gluttony, greed, anger, heresy, violence, fraud and treachery. Each circle will showcase its own distinct look, with demons, monsters, damned and geography that are crafted straight from the poem’s vivid descriptions.

To take down the demons of Hell, Dante is outfitted with two primary weapons: the Scythe he takes from Death and the Holy Cross given to him by Beatrice, which has spiritual powers that will help Dante collect souls and spells from the creatures he defeats on his journey. The game also features a deep upgrade system so gamers can customize their abilities to their specific gameplay style, something they’ll need as Dante comes face to face with Hell’s fiercest beasts and bosses. If successful, Dante will be able to tame certain beasts, exacting their will and turning Hell’s punishments back on itself.

Built on the same technology as the award-winning Dead Space™, Dante’s Inferno will deliver a fast, fluid and responsive combat experience running at 60 frames per second, a must-have for the action adventure genre. The game is being built by Visceral Games™, with the same attention to polish the studio has become known for with Dead Space.

Key Features

• An Epic Adaptation of a Classic – Based on part one of Dante Alighieri’s classic poem “The Divine Comedy,” Dante’s Inferno is a 3rd person action adventure game that takes Dante on an epic journey through Hell as he seeks to rescue the soul of his beloved Beatrice.

• The Nine Circles of Hell – Just like the poem, players will descend through Dante’s unique nine circles of Hell: limbo, lust, gluttony, greed, anger, heresy, violence, fraud and treachery. Each circle features distinct environments, enemies and story elements befitting the sins committed by their inhabitants.

• Control the Beasts of Hell – Dante’s Inferno features large scale beasts and bosses, some of which Dante will be able to fully tame, utilizing them to throw back Hell’s wrath to its minions.

• Fast, Addictive, Responsive Combat – Dante fights through the nine circles armed with Death’s Scythe and Beatrice’s Holy Cross, with magic powers and a deep, customizable upgrade system helping the player take full advantage of a fast and fluid gameplay experience that will never run at lower than 60 frames per second.

• Bring Hell With You Wherever You Go – Dante’s Inferno gives PSP owners the same level of fast, responsive gameplay through all nine detailed and unique circles of hell the team is aiming to achieve on the consoles.

• Visceral Games Stamp of Approval – From the award-winning studio that created the critically-acclaimed Dead Space, Dante’s Inferno will receive the same relentless focus on quality and polish Visceral Games has become known for.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 video game trailer released

Battlefield Bad Company 2 video game trailerLast year, the Battlefield franchise showed off some comedic chops with Battlefield: Bad Company. The game had humorous dialogue and an engaging story, and the multiplayer element was pretty solid to boot. Now, EA is gearing up to release their next entry in the Bad Company spin-off line, Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

At a recent press event held by the publisher, Battlefield: Bad Company 2’s multiplayer portion was on display. The gameplay was largely what you’d expect from the series, with huge scale 12-on-12 fracases centered on capturing and controlling spawnpoints throughout the map. The game gives you plenty of classes and weapon kits to do this, as well as many different vehicles, on land, air or sea. Only by working with your teammates can you and your team emerge victorious.

The original Battlefield: Bad Company was notable for its destruction system, which allowed you to destroy a building down to its frame. Bad Company 2 takes this concept and pushes it even further, as DICE has refined the system to be even more accurate and destructible, expanding upon one of the original game’s most intriguing elements.

The multiplayer session only showcased one area, Snowbound, which was a village steeped on a snowy mountainside where the two sides were locked in mortal conflict. The level looked great, and the narrow roads and many buildings provided for some hairy firefights. As you could imagine, the combat was pretty diverse, with plenty of on-foot and vehicle-centered fighting.

Unfortunately, Bad Company 2’s single-player campaign and story elements weren’t on offer at the EA event. However, based on the strength of the intense multiplayer element, it’s pretty safe to assume that this is a game that shooter fans will want to keep an eye on.

New PSP Go with 16GB memory NO UMD and Bluetooth - loads of pictures

Live images have leaked of Sony's PSP Go, set to launch at next week's E3.

Engadget and Gizmodo have spilled the beans on the news of the new UMD-less PSP Go that comes with 16GB of memory and a slide screen; also among the features will be built-in Bluetooth and an undisclosed memory slot.

The console will be sold alongside the PSP-3000, but there are no details on price at this time. This is obviously Sony's answer to the lost battle with the PSP Homebrew and Hacking Communities, which have cost many thousands of lost sales with custom firmwares.

Flight 666 tracks land on Rock Band video game on June 9th

rock bandIron Maiden master recordings made available as downloadable content for Rock Band Music Store for the first time

Metal lovers take notice! Harmonix Music, the leading developer of music-based games, and MTV Games, a part of Viacom’s MTV Networks, along with distribution partner Electronic Arts announce that 12 tracks from Iron Maiden, one of the world’s most successful rock bands, will be added June 9 to the Rock Band Music Store of downloadable content for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system and the Wii system.

The release of these downloadable tracks coincides with the U.S. release of Flight 666 on Blu-ray and DVD as well as a double-CD soundtrack album and limited edition double-vinyl picture disc. Flight 666 documents the first leg of Maiden’s legendary SOMEWHERE BACK IN TIME WORLD TOUR, which took them 50,000 miles around the planet, playing 23 concerts on five continents in just 45 days. One of the stars of the movie is the band’s customized Boeing 757, Ed Force One, which carried the band, all their crew and 12 tons of stage equipment and was piloted by Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson, a fully qualified and active Airline Captain with Astraeus Airlines.

Live recordings of “Aces High,” “Hallowed Be Thy Name,” “Fear of the Dark” and “Iron Maiden,” featured on Flight 666, are among those available for download in the Rock Band Music Store June 9. The other eight songs were amongst those featured on the band’s Somewhere Back in Time World Tour during the first leg of which Flight 666 was filmed. This will mark the first time master recordings from Iron Maiden have been made available on Rock Band games.

"Metal fans have wanted this one for a long time, and we've answered them with some of the greatest Maiden songs, both live and recorded," said Paul DeGooyer, Senior Vice President of Electronic Games & Music for MTV. "Iron Maiden is one of the most successful and widely recognized metal bands of all time, with more than 75 million albums sold, and counting. We're very excited to offer these tracks, and we know fans will be thrilled."

“Fans have been asking us to do something with Rock Band for some time and this seemed to be a perfect opportunity," said Iron Maiden manager Rod Smallwood. "Our recent Somewhere Back in Time tour was perhaps the most enjoyable one we have ever undertaken, and certainly the most successful with almost two million people catching the shows round the World. So it just seemed a good idea to make some of the songs we played available now so fans can play along with the band on the tour. Then we shall see if they can keep up with the band!”

Flight 666, directed by Sam Dunn and Scot McFadyen with the award-winning Banger Productions team (“Metal; A Headbanger’s Journey” and “Global Metal”) contains some of the most spectacular live footage yet seen of the band, taking you on a visual global tour from Mumbai to Sydney, Tokyo to L.A., Mexico City to Costa Rica, Bogota to Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires and Santiago to New York and Toronto and places in-between. Filmed in stunning Hi Def, the thunderous 5.1 soundtrack was specially mixed by Iron Maiden producer Kevin Shirley to complement the picture quality as an ultimate attack on the senses. Flight 666 was recently awarded this year’s 24 Beats per Second prize for Best Music Documentary at the SXSW Film and Music Festival.

The Matrix Online to close on July 31st

matrix online
Sony Online Entertainment representative Daniel Myers announced that The Matrix Online will be shut down on July 31st.

The game launched in 2005 after several delays and false starts, and shortly thereafter SOE bought the rights to operate the game from developer Monolith. Now, four years later, the game will join the ranks of closed MMOs.

In a forum post, Myers said, "The team will also be whipping up an end-of-the-world event. It won't be quite the same as having over 100 developers in the game as Agents like when we ended beta, but we have 4 years of tricks up our sleeve.

It'll be a chance to revisit all the things that make MxO the memorable experience it is. And how could we pull the plug without crushing everyone's RSI just one more time?"
