Turn your Apple iPhone into a games console...

A picture has emerged of what's claimed to be a Belkin clip-on gaming case for the iPhone that, if legit, gives the handset more of a PlayStation Portable look'n'feel.

Actually, it looks rather like the ill-fated Gizmondo gaming handheld. Let's hope this one fares better.

Smashing Pumpkins new single G.L.O.W. exclusive for Guitar Hero World Tour

http://gamezplay.blogspot.com Guitar HeroIn-Game Model of Vocalist and Lead Guitarist, Billy Corgan, and "Today" from Four Times-Platinum Album Siamese Dream To Rock On-Disc at Launch

The Smashing Pumpkins, one of rock's defining and most acclaimed bands who've sold over 30 million albums, is coming to Activision Guitar Hero World Tour in a ground-breaking way as the band will debut its new single “G.L.O.W.” exclusively in the game.

This marks the first time a band has recorded a new song exclusively for the franchise which will be released afterwards, giving Guitar Hero fans exclusive access to Smashing Pumpkins music before anyone else. The new track, bundled with two other rocking Smashing Pumpkins hits, “1979” and “The Everlasting Gaze,” will be available post-launch of the game as a three-song downloaded content pack.
Additionally, on-disc with the release of Guitar Hero World Tour this autumn, The Smashing Pumpkins’ singer, songwriter and lead guitarist Billy Corgan will appear as an in-game character and will bring with him “Today,” the band’s smash hit from their pivotal and four-times platinum 1993 album Siamese Dream.

“Today” is one of the band’s many hits that have defined the alternative music era and continue to resonate on modern rock radio, influencing a whole new generation. Players will be able to experience the unique alternative rocker’s likeness in-game as he sings and shreds on guitar, or play as the revered rock star throughout their vocal and axe careers.
When the house lights go down this fall, a new generation of guitarists, drummers and fearless frontmen will come together and rock with Guitar Hero World Tour.

The latest installment in the No1 best-selling video game franchise of 2007, Guitar Hero World Tour transforms music gaming by expanding Guitar Hero’s signature guitar gamezplay into a cooperative band experience that combines the most advanced wireless controllers with new revolutionary online* and offline gamezplay modes including Band Career and 8-player “Battle of the Bands,” which allows two full bands to compete head-to-head online for the first time ever.

The game features a slick newly redesigned guitar controller, drum kit controller and a microphone, as well as an innovative Music Studio music creator that lets players compose, record, edit and share their own rock ‘n’ roll anthems. Music creators will also be able to share their recordings with their friends online through GH Tunes SM where other gamers can download and play an endless supply of unique creations

RPGs Warrior Quest and The Broken Kingdoms have been re-launched

NEXTGENBOOKS.COM re-launches two of its most popular online RPGs, on PC and Mac plus Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS, Sony PlayStation 3 PS3, and PlayStation Portable PSP.

NEXTGENBOOKS.COM’s Warrior Quest, which recently celebrated over 100,000 plays, is a traditional RPG that blends card battles, monster collection and turn based combat to create a rich, charming, and accessible RPG experience. The game is playable on PC, Mac, Wii, and PS3 via their respective browsers and has received numerous updates since its original release. Today’s’ re-release marks the beginning of a new chapter for Warrior Quest with further updates and significant expansions planned over the coming months. In addition to bringing traditional RPG gaming to an expanded audience, Warrior Quest also integrates online leader boards and scoring that allows players, regardless of the platform they are playing on, to compete in weekly, monthly, and all-time charts.

Half Broken Crown - The Broken Kingdoms is a point and click and adventure game that places players into a fantasy world in which they must complete quests set for them by the nefarious Lord Graceland, a local noble who has quietly gone insane amid the chaos of his crumbling world. The Half Broken Crown - The Broken Kingdoms, in addition to being playable on PC, Mac, Wii and PS3, can be played using browsers on both Sony PlayStation Portable and Nintendo DS. The game also features real time chat that allows gamers to communicate, share advice and enjoy the adventure together, across different platforms. A Special Edition of this game featuring re-mixed puzzles and new game play features is currently slated for an October 2008 release. A fully fledged sequel is currently in development with a release date to be announced in the coming months.

In addition to these two titles NEXTGENBOOKS.COM is also planning to re-release its interactive novel The Sword of Oz alongside the Special Edition of The Half Broken Crown: The Broken Kingdoms this October. The Sword of Oz is the action packed prequel to L. Frank Baum’s masterpiece The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, which combines literature and traditional storytelling with interactive elements that allow the reader to chose and manipulate the course and outcome of the story.

Both Warrior Quest and The Half Broken Crown: The Broken Kingdoms are online now and both are 100% free-to-play at WWW.NEXTGENBOOKS.COM. Future updates to both titles, along with the re-release of The Sword of Oz, are scheduled throughout the remainder of 2008 going into 2009.

WiiWare relases My Aquarium - Clu Clu Land - Super Mario RPG games added

Strike up the band and let the confetti fly! This week, the Nintendo Wii Shop Channel celebrates the momentous release of its 250th game title for the Virtual Console, pushing the selection of classic games to an exhilarating new high. And because a special occasion deserves a special guest, Nintendo is thrilled to name the beloved Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars as the game to hold this exciting distinction. Along with a delightful new WiiWare title and a delirious underwater adventure, this gem from the Super NES era guarantees a festive, fun-packed Labor Day holiday for Nintendo Wii owners of all stripes.

Nintendo adds new and classic games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

WiiWare

My Aquarium (Hudson Entertainment, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): With swaying aquatic plants and fish idly swimming about, My Aquarium is a relaxing Wii experience that allows you to enjoy a virtual aquarium in your spare time. Whether freshwater or saltwater, you can select from over 40 popular types of fish, including favorites like the Ocellaris clownfish, the freshwater angelfish and the Asian arowana.

You can also create up to six different aquariums and personalize them by adding decorations like seaweed and driftwood.

In My Aquarium, you can send aquariums to your registered Wii Friends. The aquariums can even be set with special dates, such as a friend's birthday, that the fish will commemorate with a dance. Feed your fish and watch them steadily grow from fry to adult. Then, after meeting certain conditions, you can breed them. Another feature will allow you to interact with your fish using your Wii Remote controller in fun ways, like "tapping" the glass of your aquarium.

Virtual Console

Clu Clu Land (NES, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Take a deep breath and prepare for a puzzle game set in the underwater kingdom of Clu Clu Land.

The greedy Sea Urchins have stolen all of Clu Clu Land's gold bars and buried them in a series of mazes. As Bubbles, a brave bubble fish, you'll set out to uncover all of the gold bars in each maze. But you'll have to be careful: Sea Urchins will relentlessly pursue Bubbles, and there are also dangerous black holes that must be avoided.

Bubbles isn't defenseless, though, as she has the ability to stun Sea Urchins with sound waves and quickly change direction using posts scattered throughout the stages. Not only that, but the locations of the gold bars in each maze form the outline of another object—once you know the object, you're well on your way to finding the gold. With 20 stages to complete and increasingly complex conditions (like having to pass over the gold bars twice to uncover them), you might just want to bring along a friend for help.

Super Mario RPG - Legend of the Seven Stars (Super NES, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 800 Wii Points): Set in the Mushroom Kingdom and featuring its cast of well-known characters, this adventure RPG begins with a familiar scenario - Mario must rescue Princess Toadstool from Bowser. However, a mysterious new enemy named Smithy soon appears, and Mario and Bowser are forced to fight as allies for the first time in their long history.

In the quest to defeat their powerful new foe, they'll journey across a wide variety of locations (a town of mining moles, a tropical forest, a thundering waterfall—just to name a few) and tackle a mix of obstacles requiring both expert timing and strategy to overcome.

Along the way, they'll gain experience and grow more powerful, while also meeting new characters whose unique abilities will be needed to take on Smithy and his gang. Striking a perfect balance of traditional RPG elements and the action-packed game play Mario is famous for, it's easy to see why this title has earned "legendary" status.

Rockstars livin' on a prayer for a set at Glastonbury 09

http://gamezplay.org rockstar video game
Six unsigned bands face-off in the Rockstar 08 final at the Pilton Party for the ultimate prize.

The chance to play a set at Glastonbury ‘09 is now a life-changing performance away for each of the six bands left in this year’s Rockstar talent search competition.
RockStar 08 swaps one famous Pilton venue for another, as the Working Men’s Club heats give way to the finals on Friday September 5th at the Pilton Village Party, held at Michael Eavis’ Home Farm. A big year for Scouting for Girls continues, as they play live at the event in front of 1200 music fans.
Finalists 13D (Reading), Dead Like Harry (Sheffield), Major Major (Liverpool), Sound of Guns (Liverpool), local(‘ish) group Urusen (Bath) and The Velcros (Hertfordshire) will all face each other in a ‘battle of the bands’ encounter on the night, for a chance to win a dream prize. The winning band, will play live sets at the Pilton Equinox Party on 19th September, followed by a once in a lifetime performance on stage at the biggest UK festival, Glastonbury 09. Prior to that, the winners will also spend time recording at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Recording Studios.
The Pilton Party doors will open at 6.00pm, with all the rockstar hopefuls making their appearances from 7.00pm onwards. UK’s number one band, Scouting for Girls, are scheduled to hit the stage around 10.30pm for their own live performance.
Headliners Scouting for Girls - Roy Stride, Greg Churchouse and Peter Ellard - might just find there’s a whiff of deja vu about the whole competition. A Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition gave them their first ever gig in 2005. Their debut single, It's Not About You became the highest-charting limited edition EP in history; followed by their debut album reaching number one earlier this year, which later went platinum.

RockStar 08 certainly has the potential to do something similar for the eventual winner of Friday’s final.
