Video Game 'Legends Of Aethereus' Receives Kickstarter Campaign

ThreeGates today announced a Kickstarter campaign to raise $25,000 for its forthcoming co-op Hack-n-Slash Action game, Legends of Aethereus. The game successfully completed a closed beta over the past month as it ramps up the polish phase in preparation for launch. Grey's Anatomy the video game for Nintendo Wii, DS and Windows PC

Ubisoft are to develop a video game based on the acclaimed television drama series "Grey’s Anatomy." Designed for the Wii, the Nintendo DS and PC Grey’s Anatomy: The Video Game is scheduled for release early 2009.
"Ubisoft is thrilled to be collaborating with ABC Studios to turn this phenomenal television series into an interactive experience," said Christian Salomon, vice president of worldwide licensing at Ubisoft. "In Grey’s Anatomy: The Video Game, fans will have a chance to take on the roles of all of their favorite doctors in an all-new original storyline. As each doctor, players will make important personal and professional decisions, explore the direct relationships with each other, and perform the delicate surgeries the series is known for, all through fun and engaging game play."
About Grey’s Anatomy
The doctors of Seattle Grace Hospital deal with life-or-death consequences on a daily basis – it’s in one another that they find comfort, friendship and, at times, more than friendship. Together they’re discovering that neither medicine nor relationships can be defined in black and white. Real life only comes in shades of grey.

The hit series "Grey’s Anatomy" stars Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey, Patrick Dempsey as Derek Shepherd, Sandra Oh as Cristina Yang, Katherine Heigl as Isabel "Izzie" Stevens, Justin Chambers as Alex Karev, T.R. Knight as George O’Malley, Chandra Wilson as Miranda Bailey, James Pickens, Jr. as Richard Webber, Sara Ramirez as Callie Torres, Eric Dane as Mark Sloan, Chyler Leigh as Lexie Grey and Brooke Smith as Erica Hahn.
"Grey’s Anatomy" was created and is executive produced by Shonda Rhimes ("Introducing Dorothy Dandridge"). Betsy Beers ("Casanova"), Mark Gordon ("Saving Private Ryan"), Krista Vernoff ("Law & Order"), Rob Corn ("Chicago Hope"), Mark Wilding ("Jake: 2.0") and Allan Heinberg ("The O.C.") are executive producers. "Grey’s Anatomy" is an ABC Studios production.

Facebook add social games

facebook logog

Fears that computer games are turning young people antisocial are being challenged by a new generation of "sociable" games which are played through the internet.

The rise of social networking websites such as Facebook has helped attract millions of people to games which they can play with their friends.

It could represent a major challenge to the makers of hugely popular video consoles such as the Nintendo Wii or the Xbox.

While the credit crisis has forced companies across the world to rein in spending, internet games developers have received a string of multi-million dollar investments in recent months allowing them to plan expansion at a time when other businesses are making cuts.

Playfish, a British company which provides mini-golf and bowling games among others on Facebook, has attracted 25 million registered users since it was set up a year ago.

Another game on the site, a social networking device called Kidnap!, attracted 2.5 million new players in the month of October alone.

Full post on The Telegraph here...

From Mercury news...

While the rest of us have been socializing on Facebook, Webs.com has been building a very interesting business. It has been creating free games on Facebook that have garnered a huge number of page views. WarBook, a role-playing game with no animated graphics, and other Webs.com games have generated a billion page views since the first game launched 90 days ago in August. The games are generating ad revenue with just about every view…

“We launched it and it’s exploding,” said Pishevar. “WarBook is getting 15 million page views a day.”…

… Street Race is a new SGN game that has no graphics. You simply sign up, get $1,000 in play money, buy a car, then race. In the race, you click on another user. Then nothing happens. Nothing. The next screen that comes up tells you if you won or lost, how much money you earned or lost, and the skill points you earned. As your skill points grow, you win more races and get more money to spend souping up your car. The social part comes in where you can get more money by inviting 20 friends to join…

It’s simple and easy. That’s why the game has gotten more than a million page views on its first day. You can play a round in about one second…

“We’re leveraging the social graph,” Pishevar said. “It’s gaming on tap. You use it as you need it. We are building the first social gaming network on top of the Facebook social operating system.”

WipeOut, Metal Gear Online demos on PlayStation 3 on Christmas Eve

Sony and Konami respectively have announced WipEout HD and Metal Gear Online demos for release on Christmas Eve, which is 24th December in old money.

The WipEout HD demo consists of one track, which you can play as much as you like, and then shows you the others once you've finished racing it. Look but don't touch.

Once you're done, you'll be able to go to the PlayStation online shop and buy the game at a reduced price, although Sony hasn't got back to us about what that is yet. At the moment WipEout HD costs GBP 13.99.

Meanwhile, Metal Gear Online's demo will allow you to play on three maps (Blood Bath, Gronznyi Grad and Midtown Maelstrom) in seven modes (DM, TDM, Rescue Mission, Capture Mission, Base Mission, Sneaking Mission and Team Sneaking) with 16 players supported and customisable characters.

Dedicated servers have been set up for demo "to ensure that newcomers...are not overcome by its 1,000,000 registered - and highly-skilled - users", according to Konami, and they'll be up until 16th February. The demo itself will be available until 29th January.

Finally, Konami's releasing a special, limited edition MGO T-shirt for use in the game, which will be given to 1200 randomly-chosen buyers of the MEME expansion. If you win, you should get it on 6th January.
